Dear Dr. Rosie:
Before I speak on the subject of African American women and white men, let me first say that I love Black women. I love women of all races. I believe that many Black women have had babies by white men - today, yesterday and ten thousand yesterdays by their own choice. I'm tired of hearing complaints about Black men and white women. How about Black women and white men? There are four times as many African American women crossing the color line as there are black men doing it. The men are open with it, and the women are in the closet. Well, guess what? The door is now open. And its okay women! It's your body! God gave it to YOU, so have fun. Just stop blaming and accusing the men because of your guilty thoughts and actions. Or could it be that you really don't know what the sisters have been doing with their white male coworkers?
Dear Langston:
Yes, its true that Black women have had babies by White men. In years past, however, it was not by choice. They were slaves and subject to their masters. It has always been acceptable for a Black woman to have a child who looks half-white. In fact, Black women today seek lighter-complexioned men so that their children will have lighter complexions. On the other hand, a White woman was socially rejected and often made to give up her baby if a black man was the father. The Black woman and the White man have always had sexual freedom without threat. The White man sets the rules, and naturally they are in his favor! And to perpetuate his feeling of superiority, he must keep the Black man from getting HIS woman. By the way, Black women are not in the closet when it comes to dating White men. The media gives attention to the Black man/White woman relationship moreso than the Black woman/White man relationship. I don't think Black women are accusing or blaming. However, the cold reality is that 40% of Black women would never marry in comparison to 20% of White women. I believe this would impact the psyche of the Black woman and cause her to look at other men as potential partners rather than have no partner at all.
