Karen Levinson Feedback

Karen was Fabulous!!! She is an amazing asset and seems to really believe in what we're doing, which is important as she will be a major voice in selling or helping to sell it.

Meeting Highlights:

-- Karen has ALREADY put out her feelers with HBO regarding Taboo, and they said that it sounded like something that they might be interested in, AND that it was A GREAT CONCEPT!! They said that they look forward to our package!

-- BIG NOTE: Turn down the academia and turn up the POW Factor-- it's already there, just make it POP. The controversial moments truths are what make it a better sell for these cable networks. I can definitely do this-- with preserving our integrity.

-- She will only shop it to one network at a time. HBO/Cinemax may have it for a few months, and then if they pass, she'll move on to Showtime, then Lifetime, then VH-1, then Bravo, etc... If they all pass-- which she sincerely doubts-- then she may recommend that we go back to my low budget approach.

-- We only need a short video if we believe that this is an important part of selling it. In other words, if we believe that words can't convey what we're doing, then we can send the written proposal first, so that we're in the pipeline, and then send the video to them a short time afterwards to enhance our package.

-- They (Premium Cable) don't work in seasons, so the timeline for submitting is ours to create. As I've been asking around, I've confirmed that people tend to come out of the Summer with a vengeance for work. It's like in January when offices are bombarded with headshots b/c everyone has made New Year's resolutions to be more diligent.

-- I told her that we'd have the written proposal to her by September 25th, after brainstorming, restructuring, etc. So as we may be competing with a number of other things on the desk of HBO, I will definitely NOT take August off, as I had been originally considering, but only take the last week in August and the first week in September off. This way, when we come out of the brainstorming process, we can really CREATE the MOST FAB presentation package possible, and NOT have time constraints on it.

-- I do feel like the presentation for this project will be enhanced by a video, even just a 3 minute trailer. I really want us to have the strongest package possible, and most of the people that we're competing with will also have video. So we'll see what can be done with my camera, and possibly the subject pre-interviews. We'll discuss this more later in the Summer.

-- ALSO! Karen says that she was in the feature side of the game at HBO, and it really sounded like after our doc is a huge, stunning success and we're doing our feature, that it'll practically be a walk in the park if we wanted HBO to make it.

SO as you can see GOOD STUFF! Yay Karen Levinson...
